Why is a "Tag" called a "Tag"? Just wondering..

So we finally decided to do the tag that arrived from DI's blog! The rules first:
1. On your blog, provide a link to this page. (http://greatbong.net/book). Embedding the above picture in your blog would be nice but not needed.
2. Then write down your top 10 Hindi movie lines or top 10 English movie lines (You can do both if you want. Only one set is required for the contest). If you cannot think of top 10, make it top 5. Cannot think of even 5? Make it top 3. No problem. Only restriction: no two lines from same movie. This done to make it fair for other movies so that they dont get swamped by Gunda or Loha or Sholay.
3. Tag five friends to do the same.
4. Come over to the comment-space of this post and post your blog’s link so I can go and read it.

Remember: Before starting the tag, paste points 1 and 4 on your blog so that the rules are available to anyone who wishes to pick the tag up from your blog.

I have never done a tag before, but I am going to make a valiant effort at this one because it has a prize is very interesting! Gehehehee..:D

So here goes, in no particular order, my favorite dialogues:

1. "Shaant Gadhadhari Bheem, Shaant!" - From Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro
Need I mention the reason? The movie + the Mahabharat Scene + the dialogues + the actors + the ruckus = The BEST Hindi movie ever

2. "I just replied back on a Wednesday" - A Wednesday
Actually the entire last 10 minutes of Naseeruddin Shah's dialogues. But this one especially because that's the first time that a Hindi movie justified its title so beautifully.

3. Rotlu: "Ek Coke dena" Pause "On the Rocks"
    Bartender: "Sambhal Ke"
LOL! Loved this scene from Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na..

4. "IMAGINE. Main tumhe like kar sakti hoon!"
From Jab We Met. She is damn cute when she says this!

5. Anna Scott: After all... I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.
Notting Hill!!! Love this movie, this dialogue and Hugh Grant for obvious reasons..

6. Christopher Gardner: This part of my life... this part right here? This is called "happyness."
From The Pursuit of Happyness. It's a beautiful movie and I could have quoted more, but that's against the rules. I'll just mention it anyway - The Interview Scene..You get it right? :)

7. Oskar Schindler: I could have got more out. I could have got more.
From Schindler's List. If you were stone hearted enough not to shed a single tear till this point in the movie, this dialogue would have made you shed buckets!

8. Maggie Carpenter: I guarantee there'll be tough times. I guarantee that at some point, one or both of us is going to want get out. But I also guarantee...that if I don't ask you to be mine, I'll regret it for the rest of my life. Because I know in my heart... you're the only one for me.
From Runaway Bride. I would stop breathing if Richard Gere stood in front of me. She actually proposed! :)

9. Travis Bickle: You talkin' to me?
Shirtless Robert de Niro in Taxi Driver (1976) in front of the mirror took the world by storm with this dialogue. It still works for me!

10. Saving the best for the last:
Rhett Butler: Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.
The closing scene of Gone with the wind, the 1939 classic starring Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable. Its simply a classic. Period.

And there are so many more!! When Harry Met Sally, Rang de Basanti, Sleepless in Seattle, Pretty Women, StepMom, Erin Brokovich! I'll take up this tag again some other time..:)
I am only tagging Karthik! Don't know many people on the blogosphere..Any random readers are most welcome to pick up the tag.

Signing off,
Preeti

PS: On an unrelated note,

(c) There is no point (c). I just didn't like the idea of having only 2 bullet points..:)

  1. Most of the one liners you've written are my top favourites too, esp. that Taxi Driver's and Pursuit of Happyness. The first one that comes to my mind when I'm asked to say my favourite is Godfather's - "Make him an offer he can't refuse." :)
Must admit you are a connoisseur of good movies. Why? Because I too love all those movies you've mentioned (except gone with the wind, as I've not seen).. hehehehehe.... :)

And thank you so much for tagging me, Preeti. That's such a nice gesture. I don't do tags usually, as they are too boring and frivolous. But this part of my blogging career... this part right here? This is very amusing. :D :D :D

I shall take it up when I'm free and have nothing to write.
    Thanks again. :)

  9. Oh yes! And I had such a *HUGE* crush on Hugh Grant and his brit accent then! I think he was the only guy I thought could carry off a pink shirt the way he did! Though now I have shifted loyalties to the Hugh 'Wolverine' Jackman :D

    I installed Chrome again. HAHAHA.

  10. OMG Dittttto about the pink shirt! My friends still tease me about that. I seriously do think he carried it off well! And psssssst: I also liked Hugh Grant in Music & Lyrics. He looked old, but cute nonetheless. If my friends read this, they'll have a field day laughing! And yeah, Hugh Jackman's also good. No, actually, damn good! :)
You got Chrome back? Wow. I just had to go plead my IT guy to give me Admin rights so I could transfer some OFFICIAL stuff from a USB. Un-freakin-believable!

  11. Nice compilation...

"Shaant Gadhadhari Bheem, Shaant!" from #1 underwent some customization in "Singh is Kinng" and transformed into "Shaant Lady Bheem, Shaant!"

    Dialogue mouthed by Akshay Kumar...

  12. @Roshmi: Yeah? I didn't know that..Have a medical condition, simply called "Akshay Allergy"! Just cannot get myself to sit through his movies..Maybe I'll try sometime! Thanks for stopping by! :)

Them 90s Things - 1 - iTV Music Channel

Starting a random series of all things from a 90s childhood, just so I have a record of these memories for posterity. Do you remember a channel called iTV?  The 1999 Cricket World Cup was when our extremely middle-class, government quarters colony rose to the challenge of cable tv. Till then, we were happily adjusting our antennas and watching wholesome family entertainment on the two channels of DD1 and DD2. Then came the cable wale bhaiya, with his fancy earring, a few TV guides stacked under his arms along with long ropes of cable, promising unlimited entertainment for the entire colony. And just like that, we all got lured. Cable TV bought with it a lot of changes, many of which I assume will get covered in this series. But, today's post is about 1 particular memory which every 90s kid can relate to. A huge letter I revolving on the TV in anticipation of a new song being chosen. Yep. The iTV generation. Not MTv. It was all about iTV. I still don't know what that channel was...

Letters to the Upparwalla!

(Wow! BlogAdda made my day! :) ) Prologue: I have been SO so SO so lazy, busy and blank, that I stopped writing posts altogether. But then, on reflection, I thought I owed this one to the unseen forces above. Hence, this post! LETTER #1 To The Gods Above, 1, "All Roads Lead to Heaven" Road, Heaven - 000000 15.06.2010 From Un Faithful Earthling Somewhere on Earth - Does the pin code matter? Sir/Ma'am, SUB: Complaint Regarding Services Rendered             This is to bring to your kind attention, the highly unsatisfactory services being rendered to me, not at all in keeping with the Contract signed during my release to the Earth. The Truant Family!

The low hanging trees were always in demand. As Raji rushed for the nearest one, with her little brother in her tow, she cast a quick glance at the tree to survey the bounty. It was laden with fresh guavas, alright! Pumped, she put her foot on the lowest branch and pulled herself up. Raji had barely put her foot on the next branch, when she felt a tug on her skirt. Feeling a nudge of irritation, she peered down at her four year old brother. "What is it, Appu?" "Where's my guava?" he demanded. "Will you at least wait while I climb up?" She resumed her climb up carefully, so as not to tear her skirt. The trick was to choose the right branches. She had barely moved up one level, when she felt a tug again. She looked around for the nearest ripe guava and hurled it before Appu could speak. She heard his chuckles of delight as he dug into large juicy bites. That settled, she ensconced in a comfortable branch, and began her feast of the large, ripe guavas. S...
